Utility Billing

The City of Montgomery provides water and sewer services. Utility Billing account information can be obtained by contacting City Hall at 507.364.8888 from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Residents are billed on a monthly basis for water and sewer utilities.

Utility Rates

The City sets the rate it charges for water and sewer services.  Please reference the city’s fee schedule to learn more about the rates that are currently adopted.  Water revenues are used to fund water production, water treatment, water storage facilities, and maintain the City’s infrastructure.  Sewer revenues are used to fund wastewater treatment facilities and to maintain local infrastructure and lift stations. 

Utility Information

The City of Montgomery charges based on actual water and sewer usage for each month.  A second water meter may be installed in homes or businesses to measure outdoor water usage like lawn irrigation.  Currently each new residence built in the City shall have two (2) water meters. The meter that measures the water usage that will enter the municipal sanitary sewer system will be charged sanitary sewer charges.

Payment Options

The City of Montgomery offers multiple payment options to ensure each resident has an efficient and convenient way in paying their utility bill.

  • Drop Off / In Person     

 Stop by the Montgomery Municipal Building and either drop it off with City Offices or utilize the drop box located on the left hand side of the main entrance of the Municipal Building.  

  • Mail

Mail a check with statement so it is received by City Hall by the due date.  Send payments to:

  • Automatic Payment Plan (ACH)

The City of Montgomery offers automatic payment from your checking/savings account for utilities.  There is no charge and you still receive a statement each month.  If you are interested, please complete the Utility Payment Automatic Transfer Authorization, attach a voided check (for checking accounts) or deposit slip (for savings accounts) and return it to City Hall.

Please continue to make payments until your utility statement states that payment is made by automatic transfer.  It may take up two (2) billing cycles for the automatic payment plan to start.  Once the automatic payment plan is set up on your account, the amount due on your utility bill will be withdrawn from your bank account on approximately the 22nd day of the month.  If you change banks or accounts, it is your responsible to notify City Hall and complete a new authorization form

Snowbird / Vacation Request

To temporarily suspend utility services provided by the City of Montgomery, please complete the Snowbird / Vacation Request Form and submit it by mail, email, fax, or drop it off at City Hall.  The service costs $50.00 per connection to administer.  

Increased Utility Usage

If you are wondering why your utility bill is higher than usual, please consider the following items:

Holidays – Keep in mind extra company means more water used.
Leaks – A continuous drip or leak adds up over time.  Check your toilets, sinks, or outside faucets.
Warmer Weather – Warmer weather means more shows, baths, and outside water usage
Water Softeners – Some water softeners use between 200 – 400 gallons each time they are set to regenerate.  A water softener should regenerate approximately every other week for a family of four. 

The City recognizes that leaks, accidents, or other mishaps can occur in the home or business which result in an unusually high monthly utility bill. Therefore, the City offers a One-Time Modification of a property owner's monthly utility bill when such an accident occurs. The property owner must provide proof of repair of the leak. Just as the name of this policy suggests, this is one-time offer and it is the property owner's choice when they wish to utilize it.  Learn more about the One-Time Modification Policy and complete the Form.
