Election Information

One of the best ways to participate in Montgomery’s local government is by voting. The City Clerk-Treasurer oversees all aspects related to holding elections, including polling location, voter registration, election judges, and candidate filing.

Absentee Voting

State law permits eligible voters who reasonably expect to be unable to go to the polling place on Election Day to vote by absentee ballot. Reasons a person may vote by absentee include:

  • Absence from precinct
  • Illness or disability
  • Service as an election judge in another precinct
  • Religious discipline or observance or a religious holiday
  • An eligible emergency declared by the Governor or quarantine declared by Federal or State government.

Qualifications for Voting

You may register and vote in Minnesota on the next Election Day if you:

  • will be at least 18-years-old on Election Day
  • are a citizen of the United States
  • will have resided in Minnesota for 20 days immediately preceding Election Day
  • have any felony conviction record discharged, expired, or completed
  • are not under court-ordered guardianship where a court has revoked your voting rights have not been ruled legally incompetent by a court of law
