Permit to Purchase a Handgun
A permit is required in order to acquire a pistol from a federal firearms dealer. Application for this permit must be made in the city in which you reside, or the County Sheriff if you reside outside the city limits.
Montgomery Residents
If you are a Montgomery resident and live within the city limits, you may obtain an application from the Montgomery Police Department, 300 Lexington Ave NW, Montgomery during business hours, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday or by printing one out below.
Applications must be dropped off in person with valid state ID showing your current Montgomery address. Allow 7 days to process your application. There is no fee. Upon approval, your permit will be valid for one year.
